It's so refreshing to see a woman of color breaking boundaries. Model Halima Aden is making history as the first woman to wear a hijab and burkini on the cover of Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit edition. Get into her gorgeousness inside...

Listen, Halima Aden is out here killing it while helping to change the game when it comes to inclusion and diversity.

The Somali-American model first shook up the pageant world after she competed in the Miss Minnesota USA competition wearing a traditional hijab in 2016. She rocked a burkini for the swimsuit round, making history as the first woman in the pageant world to do so. Now, she's making even bigger waves on the magazine circuit.

The 21-year-old just became the first Muslim model to wear a hijab and burkini in Sports Illustrated's 2019 Swimsuit edition.

For the photoshoot, she was able to take it back to her roots, jetting to her home country at Watamu Beach. She was born in Kenya at the Kakuma Refugee Camp, where she lived until the age of seven before moving to the United States.

“I keep thinking to 6-year-old me who, in this same country, was in a refugee camp,” she said during her shoot. “So to grow up to live the American dream, to come back to Kenya and shoot for SI in the most beautiful parts of Kenya — I don’t think that’s a story that anybody could make up.”

After signing with IMG models, Halima went on to slay her first ever VOGUE Arabia cover. The IMG model also walked in Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 fashion show and she booked the cover of CR Fashion Book.

Of course, she offers up some inspirational words after making history in the magazine world:

The glow up continues! Sports Illustrated's 2019 Swimsuit edition goes on sale May 8th.

Congrats, Halima!
