'She's Gotta Have It' Gets The Axe! But Perk Up, Netflix Just Dropped The New 'Dear White People' Trailer

That's a wrap on Nola Darling's story.  And we feel some kind of way about that.  Deets on the cancellation of "She's Gotta Have It" inside.

Now Netflix.  You're really doing the most right now with all these cancellations.

The latest show on the chopping block is Spike Lee's "She's Gotta Have It," the series with a 2-season run based off his cult classic movie of the same name.

“Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods.”

According to Deadline, the series is being shopped elsewhere.

After Netflix made the announcement that it would not be renewing the show for a third season, star Dewanda Wise gave a sweet salute to the fans and her co-stars.  And, of course, to our friend-in-our-head we sometimes hate, Nola Darling.

It's unclear the exact reason for the cancellation, but most often it's related to viewership numbers. Not everyone seemed to love season 2 as much as season 1. The latest season focused more on storytelling, Nola's inner work, social issues like gentrification and the ramifications of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Less sex (but there was def some steamy scenes - Hello British sculptor bae!), more story. Maybe that just wasn't everyone's cup-o-tea.

There's good news though.  Netflix let our other fave tv adaptation, "Dear White People", live another day.  Season 3 kicks off August 2nd.  We're getting new characters and new stories around our fave collegiates navigating a predominantly white Ivy League university.

This should be good.
