More details about Jennifer Hudson playing Aretha Franklin in an upcoming biopic are trickling in. Get it all inside...

Now that Jennifer Hudson has crossed the bridge over troubled water in her legal battle with ex David Otunga - agreeing to 50/50 custody of David Jr. following a two year legal battle - it’s time for the Grammy and Oscar winner to think (think!) about what it takes to channel the legendary Aretha Franklin.   The upcoming biopic film is set to begin shooting this fall.

We told you JHud would be lending her vocals and acting talent to portray the legendary singer in the biopic. Now, we know the title of the film.

The musical production appropriately titled Respect will take us back to the chain of events that led to Mrs. Franklin being dubbed the Queen of Soul and then hone in on her rise to fame during the 60’s and 70’s. No word on who will costar in the film, but it’s being directed by Liesl Tommy, a South African born director. She led the “Eclipsed” stage play about war torn Liberian women, starring Lupita Nyong’o.

By the way, she's also set to direct the film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s biography, Born A Crime, also starring Lupita.

Regardless of appearances, JHud was born for this role. Not only did Franklin handpick Hudson to play her before her passing, the girl's a "Natural Woman" when it comes to singing and acting.

The upcoming film will be backed by MGM, who is currently accepting online audition submissions for the role of young Aretha Franklin.

They film is searching for a black American actress/singer between ages 10 to 14. Candidates must sing gospel “with a soaring soprano voice and the ability to play the piano is a plus." Aspiring actors, get the deets here.

RESPECT hits theaters August 14, 2020. Y'all ready for it?!
