Salt-N-Pepa responds to estranged group member DJ Spinderella's lawsuit. And it's getting messier, especially with talk about a restraining order. Deets inside...

Why can’t we all just get along?

Things are getting messier between Salt, Pepa and estranged group member DJ Spinderella.

In case you missed it, Spinderella announced back in May that she had been fired from the legendary act. In a lengthy Instagram post, Spin apologized to fans for missing the upcoming NKOTB Mixtape Tour.

“I'm deeply saddened to share with all the #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella fans that I will not be performing on the #NKOTB Mixtape Tour,” she wrote. Despite my participation in promoting the tour and being highly publicized as one of the acts, in January 2019 I received a ‘termination’ email from #SaltnPepa excluding me from performances with the group. It was my expectation, after making that decision, that they would also take responsibility for sharing the news with the public and other affected parties. It has been months now with no mention. Out of love for my fans and a commitment to upholding a standard of professionalism, I've taken it upon myself to let everyone know. I refuse to participate in misleading fans, ticketholders, and others who -- based on all the advertising -- were anticipating seeing the iconic #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella trio. So, I'm making it clear now. Please know you will have the opportunity to see me this summer in many other projects and activities I'll be participating in and I look forward to seeing you all then.”

Thank you, Spinderella

As a result of what is an alleged unfair termination, Spin took legal manners into her own hands and decided to SUE her former bandmates for royalties.

Spinderella (born Deidra Roper) filed a breach of contract lawsuit in federal court (sheesh) in Texas against her former bandmates, Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton claiming they failed to pay her hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties dating back to 1999. She also claims to have been paid less for her appearances on the "Salt-N-Pepa Show" and to have been undercompensated for the group’s 2018 Billboard Award performance.

Folks in Salt-N-Pepa's camp said Spin is just "bitter."

Now, the girl group has officially responded to the lawsuit via a statement from their rep Rick French. The case has been ordered to mediation:

"A U.S. District Court Judge in the Dallas District today rejected DJ Spinderella's requests for immediate relief against Salt-N-Pepa and its management, ordering the case to mediation. We are grateful for the judge's ruling as Salt-N-Pepa have been extremely generous to Spin over many decades and attempted to settle what amounts to a divorce, both peacefully and without rancor. Unfortunately, Spin and her legal team adopted a scorched earth approach that brought unnecessary attention to a business dispute that all along could have, and should have, been settled amicably and privately. "

Whew chile, what happened to girl power? It doesn't end there....

It's being reported Spinderella requested a temporary restraining order against her former bandmates. Oh? Spin's attorney, Paul Stafford, spoke up on her behalf, saying:

“Spinderella is seeking injunctive relief due to the immediate and irreparable harm that has been caused to her due to the acts and omissions of the defendants. Before we filed this lawsuit, we intended to resolve the matter with all the defendants, but we were unable to do so, and it’s unfortunate that the defendants have chosen not to try and honor Spinderella’s role in the group or their financial or legal commitments to her. So she was in a position where she had to force her rights and protect her brand, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Wow. A hearing on her request is scheduled to be heard in a Dallas.

After 30 years as a group, it’s a bit heartbreaking to see things end this way.

Spin has all these legal drama poppin' off right before her birthday:

By the way, LIFETIME announced a miniseries about how Salt-N-Pep became one of the hottest rap groups in the game is coming down the pipeline. We wonder how they'll work it out with all of these new legal issues they're currently facing.
