To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking music program "Soul Train," Tony-nominated "Ain’t Too Proud" writer Dominique Morisseau, Apollo Theater executive producer Kamilah Forbes, and "Once On This Island" choreographer Camille A. Brown will all collaborate to create a new musical.

Created by the visionary that is the late Don Cornelius, "Soul Train" served as a platform that brought black culture to the masses. Artists such as Gladys Knight, James Brown, the Jackson 5 and many more all graced the Soul Train stage.

"Don Cornelius created a television show that became a cornerstone in American Culture and we are so humbled and honored to be bringing it to the stage with their brilliant vision,” said producing partners Matthew Weaver, Jeffrey Tick, and Richard Gay.

The Roots’ drummer/author Questlove has also signed on as Executive Producer. Questlove published his own love letter to the iconic variety show in 2013 with his book, SoulTrain: The Music, Dance, and Style of a Generation. He also posted to Instagram to share the exciting news.

According to Playbill, the play will follow Cornelius’ life as he created the series and will feature 20 songs from the Soul Train era.

This isn’t the only platform that’s recently paid homage to "Soul Train." BET’s American Soul television series had a successful season 1 and is planned to return to the network for season 2.

The play is expected to debut in 2021.

Will there be a Soul Train line during intermission though?
