“Punky Brewster” – the popular 80s sitcom – is coming back to television. And actress Cherie Johnson has confirmed she’ll be reprising her original role. Catch the nostalgic feels inside…

If you grew up in the 80s, then you likely were watching “Punky Brewster.” And now that Hollywood is basically reviving and rebooting all of our throwback faves, the comedy series is making a comeback to television.

The 80s sitcom was about a young girl (Soleil Moon Frye) being raised by a foster parent (George Gaynes). In the original comedy series, actress Cherie Johnson played Punky’s best friend, Cherie Johnson (yeah, same name). Also, Soleil will be reprising her title role as Punky. Woot!

The revival has a pilot order at Peacock, NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming platform set to launch in April 2020.

In the sequel, Cherie and Soleil are all grown up.

“To ‘Punky’s’ kids, she’s ‘Aunt Cherie.’ Her life-long friendship with ‘Punky’ inspired her to become a social worker, helping orphaned kids,” NBCU described her role.

Deadline breaks down who will be working on the series behind-the-scenes:

Produced by UCP and Universal Television, Punky Brewster is written and executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida. Frye will also serve as executive producer along with Duclon and Jimmy Fox of Main Event Media, an All3Media America company. Jonathan Judge is directing the pilot.

The original series, created by David W. Duclon, ran for four seasons from 1984-1988, two on NBC and two in syndication.

After the original “Punky Brewster” wrapped, Cherie starred in the 90s sitcom, “Family Matters.” She also nabbed recurring roles in“The Parkers” and “Days of Our Lives”. Outside of acting, she’s an author of five novels and she has podcast called “Cherie’s World” where she discusses her adventures of motherhood. Nice!

Oh, and get this...

The Daily Mail reported about Cherie reprising her role and used a picture of former "Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood" star Hazel-E. Yikes.

"I know people keep sending it to me @dailymail got Jokes we don’t all look alike! But hats off to my girl @hazelebaby!!! Maybe they are predicting the future. Maybe you will take over Girlfriends and Champagne love! That’s a great idea #oops #youdidthat #dailymailfail #dailymailfailsagain #cheriejohnson #punkypower #notjournalism #notrealjournalism," she wrote on Instagram.

Hazel-E responded, "Girl everyone dm’d this. Congrats on the reboot!!! Funny part is that pic from the day we did that hip hop panel together. They tried it!!!"

Will you be tuning in for this revival?
