The white police officer who killed 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson has resigned from the Fort Worth Police Department as politicians and celebrities weigh in on the murder. Details about his resignation and more about the “loving” aunt/daughter inside…

[UPDATE]

Former police officer Aaron Dean has been charged with murder, according to the Forth Worth Police Department:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A black woman - 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson - was gunned down in her bedroom by a white Fort Worth, TX police officer after her neighbor, James Smith, called a non-emergency police number for a wellness check over the weekend.

The neighbor noticed her front door was open and lights were on in the home, so he called the police to check. Atatiana - who was a pre-med graduate and was working in pharmaceutical equipment sales - was reportedly playing videos games with her 8-year-old nephew before the officer shot threw an open window in her bedroom and killed her without any warning. He also did NOT identify himself as a police officer. See the body cam footage HERE.

The police officer – who has been reportedly identified as Aaron Dean - was placed on administrative leave after he shot and killed Atatiana. Today, the officer has resigned, hours before the police department was reportedly going to fire him.

Below is a screenshot of the officer’s alleged Facebook account:

In a press conference, Interim Police Chief Ed Kraus announced he had intended on firing the officer for "violations of use of force, deescalation protocols & unprofessional conduct." He had already been stripped of his badge & firearm when he was issued an administrative warning.

Kraus said officer Dean, who joined the department in April 2018, still faces criminal charges as well as possible civil rights violations. Not only that, Kraus revealed Dean has not been cooperating with investigators in the case. The nerve.

Peep his conference below:

In a separate news conference, Atatiana’s family called for an arrest of the officer for murdering their loved one in cold blood. They are demanding an outside investigation into her death.

"Fort Worth PD can not investigate themselves. This man murdered someone. He should be arrested," Darius Carr, Atatiana's brother, told reporters.

Watch the family’s press conference below:

The news of Atatiana’s murder comes less than two weeks after former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was sentenced to 10-years for fatally shooting black accountant Botham Jean in his home.

Atatiana’s father, Marquis Jefferson, also spoke out following his daughter’s “sensless” murder. Unlike Botham Jean’s family, he said he doesn’t want a hug from the officer who took his child’s life.

“Unlike Botham Jean, I don’t want no hug. That’s my one and only daughter,” Marquis said. “I’ll never forget that.”

And we don’t blame him one bit. It’s reported Atatiana moved to another city to take care of her ailing mother. She was reportedly in the hospital while she was baby sitting her young nephew. Tragic.

People have been reacting to Atatiana's murder on social media, including presidential hopefuls Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, and Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price:

Celebrities like Ava DuVernay and Chelsea Handler have also weighed in on Atatiana’s death:

We hope and pray REAL justice is served in this tragic situation.
