Ooo... this is going to be a knockout! Ryan Destiny is set to play professional boxer Claressa Shields in an upcoming movie about her life titled, Flint Strong. More inside...

This is going to be a KNOCKOUT!

Ryan Destiny – who’s best known for her role on “STAR” – has landed the lead role in Universal’s upcoming film, Flint Strong. Ryan will portray Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, a Flint, Michigan native who made history at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. At the age of 17, she boxed her way to becoming the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing and she was only 17. Woot!

The film is based on the 2015 boxing documentary T-Rex by Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper, which follows Claressa’s rise to fame. Mudbound’s Rachel Morrison (the first female cinematographer to be nominated for an Academy Award) will make her directorial debut and Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins (an Oscar winner) will write the script.

According to Deadline, Michael De Luca and Elishia Holmes are producing the project under the Universal-based Michael De Luca Productions banner alongside Jenkins. Canepari, Cooper and Sue Jaye Johnson are executive producers, while Universal’s Erik Baiers and Tony Ducret will oversee the project for the studio.

It’s a big deal too. It’ll be Ryan’s first major film role since starring in Lee Daniels’ “STAR.” She’s also starring in the third season of “Grown-ish.”

We’re here for this! #BlackGirlMagic will be coming to a theater near you…
