Colin Kaepernick has a private workout scheduled with the NFL in Atlanta this weekend and Jay-Z may have had a part in it. More inside...

Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick – who was blackballed from the NFL after launching his silent protest – tweeted about an upcoming private workout in Atlanta this weekend where all 32 NFL teams are invited following the breaking news. He made it known he was excited about the workout and that he had remained in shape over the last three years.

”I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday,” he tweeted.

NFL reporter Ian Rapport revealed that Jay-Z had influence over the league’s decision to give the former QB – who is an unrestricted free agent - a second chance.

“I’m also told that JAY-Z, who is working with the NFL on some social justice initiatives, was involved in this and pushed this idea to some extent,” Ian said in the clip above.

The settlement Ian refers to in the tweet is the $10 million settlement Colin (and Eric Reid) reached with the NFL after they filed collusion lawsuits.

We’re sure fans will be happy to know that Hov may have had a hand in getting the workout. As you know, folks were calling Jay-Z a “sell out” after inking a partnership with the league. Hov and Roc Nation teamed up with the NFL to serve as the league’s “live music entertainment strategist.” They’re also revamping the league’s Inspire Change program and it appears Colin is the first project they’re tackling.

Still, some wonder if this is a PR trap of sorts.  Did the NFL agree to do this workout - on a day where most teams will be prepping for Sunday & Monday games - just to set him up to not be hired by a team?  Then, that way, his complaint that he has been blackballed and can't even get a tryout will be null and void.

As of now, Colin doesn’t know which teams will show up at the Combine-style workout, however, it’s reported multiple teams are interested. These include the Cowboys (a long shot though), Lions, Cardinals, Broncos, Redskins, Falcons, Dolphins and Buccaneers. We're also hearing rumors of his former team the 49ers' interest too.

It’s reported, when Colin first learned about the private workout, he tried to have it rescheduled twice to allow more team representatives to attend. NFL workouts typically take place on Tuesdays, when teams often have off days and head coaches and general managers have a better opportunity to attend. That request was denied by the NFL, according to multiple media reports. The workout will be recorded and shared with all 32 teams.

Colin's good friend/Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid said the former QB is ready, however, he feels like the workout is a PR stunt.

"At this point, I'll believe it when I see it," he said.
