PRESS PLAY: You Can Finally Shake What Ya Mama Gave Ya To City Girls’ ‘Twerkulator’ After Sample-Clearance Issue Resolved

The City Girls’ “Twerkulator” has finally arrived after some sample-clearance issues. The Miami rap duo has finally released the audio of the single almost a year after it leaked online. Take a listen inside…

From an unofficial release to getting the samples cleared!

In 2020, the City Girls’ album City On Lock leaked online and their song “Twerkulator” was one track that made its rounds online. The problem at the time was that the sample hadn’t been cleared, so the track was left off the album. Also, the track was gaining traction on TikTok as folks were creating content with the track.

It appears QC honcho Pierre “Pee” Thomas coughed up some cash to get the sample cleared, so it can be released as a proper single for the masses. “Twerkulator” samples “Planet Rock,” the 1982 song by Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force and Cajmere’s 1992 house anthem “Coffee Pot (It’s Time For The Percolator).” “Planet Rock” sampled Kraftwerk’s “Trans-Europe Express,” so all of the members of Kraftwerk were also given songwriting credits.

Everybody eats!

Take a listen below:

Before the full audio was released, which includes behind-the-scenes clips of the City Girls doing a photoshoot for the cover art, City Girls’ rapper Yung Miami/Caresha got involved in a social media spat with the Clermont Twins …. over a pose.

Shannon Clermont called out the City Girl for biting their style and poses in the promo video for the track. Peep their war of words below:

As expected, City Girls’ rapper JT also chimed in:

Well alright.

We’re just here for the summer bop!

The City Girls will be turning up to their newly released track in Houston.
