Shyne - Former Bad Boy Rapper Turned Belizean Politician - Returns To The U.S. On Diplomatic Business To Fight For His Country

Former Bad Boy rapper Shyne made his way back on U.S. soil for the first time since being deported, but it wasn't for anything music related. Oh no. Shyne is a Belizean diplomat now and his return to the U.S. was all about diplomatic business to make sure his people are good. More inside...

From rapper to diplomatic leader! Shyne is proof you can change your life around for the better.

Shyne - a former Bad Boy artist - was released from prison in 2009 after doing a decade behind bars on an attempted murder charge. If you're old to know, you remember when that ish went down.

In 1999, Shyne was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment for his involvement in the infamous Manhattan nightclub shooting altercation that resulted in three people getting injured. Diddy and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were also in the mix and the story made headlines.

In 2001, Shyne was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The "That's Gangsta" rapper was released from prison in 2009 and was deported to Belize for being a non-citizen felon.

For the first time since he was deported in 2009, Shyne touched down in the U.S. this week after he was granted a Visa. The Visa allowed him to meet with U.S. senators and congressmen across the country to help establish new relationships between Belize and the U.S.

Shyne (real name Jamal Michael Barrow and now goes by Moses Barrow) was born in Belize City. As a child, he lived in NYC and spent his summers in Belize. The former rapper is no stranger to politics. His father, Dean Barrow, was elected as the Prime Minister of Belize in 2008, making him the country's first black prime minister.

Shyne, 42, is doing big things in his home country. He now serves as a member of the Belizean House of Representatives. He won the Mesopotamia seat in Belize City for the House of Representatives in November 2020. He's also the leader of the Opposition Party and he has been putting in work to help build a better environment for his community.

While in Atlanta, he linked up with rapper/activist Killer Mike:

"I was a fan of Shyne the rapper I am an even BIGGER Fan and follower of Shyne the leader in Belize and abroad. From Rapper to Prisoner to Elected official fighting to get trade schools and alternatives to Crime for his people. I sincerely love and Respect the brother!," Killer Mike tweeted.

Shyne also held a meeting with House Rep. Hon. Erica Thomas, Vice Chairwoman of the Georgia Democratic Caucus, and Omotayo Alli, who is the Executive Director of the Georgia Public Defender Council, at the Georgia State Capitol.

REVOLT - founded by Bad Boy honcho Diddy - shared a video of Shyne talking about what it feels like to return to the U.S.

In the clip (above), Shyne talked about how his homie Diddy and friend Corey Jacobs helped him create connections and build relationships with U.S. politicians. He's hopeful that he will be able to strengthen ties between the United States and Belize.

Peep clips from a discussion Shyne & Diddy had last month where he talked about his life journey below:
