Ex-Raiders Coach Jon Gruden SUES The NFL & Roger Goodell, Doesn't Deny He Sent Racist, Homophobic & Sexist Emails

Ex-Raiders head coach Jon Gruden isn't going out without a fight. He just filed a lawsuit against the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell with claims that they sought to destroy his life by purposely leaking his racist, homophobic and sexist emails.

Details about the suit inside...

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden resigned as head coach of the Raiders last month after reports emerged of him using homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in emails while he worked as an ESPN anouncer. But, he's not leaving without a fight.

The former head coach is suing the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell in Nevada district court, alleging they sought to destroy his career and reputation through a "malicious and orchestrated campaign." Sound familiar?

Gruden filed the lawsuit exactly one month after stepping down as head coach of the Raiders. He resigned halfway through the fourth year of his 10-year, $100 million contract with the Raiders.

Adam Hosmer-Henner - Gruden's attorney - released a statement that said the defendants “selectively leaked Gruden’s private correspondence to the Wall Street Journal and New York Times in order to harm Gruden’s reputation and force him out of his job.”

“In contrast to the formalities of the Washington Football Team investigation, Defendants’ treatment of Gruden was a Soviet-style character assassination,” the lawsuit alleges. “There was no warning and no process. Defendants held the emails for months until they were leaked to the national media in the middle of the Raiders’ season in order to cause maximum damage to Gruden.”

The suit accuses the NFL of pressuring the Raiders to fire him after the emails were released “intimated that further documents would become public if Gruden was not fired.”

Oddly enough, Gruden never denies sending those emails so...yeah. There's that.

The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal published reports that Gruden used homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in a series of hateful emails sent to former Washington Football Team executive Bruce Allen over a seven-year period, from 2011 to 2018, during his time as an announcer at ESPN.

Gruden sent an email to Allen where he called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a “f*ggot” and a “clueless anti football p*ssy”.

Everything was uncovered in an ongoing investigation into The Washington Football Team's problematic front office culture and disturbing claims brought by former members of the cheerleading team. Gruden's controversial emails popped up in a set of 650,000 emails obtained by the league during the investigation.

After the emails were published, Gruden said he didn't have "a blade of racism" in his body in response to an email he wrote where he described NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith, who is Black, as having “lips the size of michellin tires” in an email 10 years ago. Gruden said he regularly used the phrase “rubber lips” to describe anyone he considered a liar.

Boy, bye.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy released a statement, saying, “The allegations are entirely meritless and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims."

Raiders owner Mark Davis revealed he and Gruden reached a settlement over the remaining six years of his contract. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Moral of the story: Don't send racist, homophobic or misogynistic emails. And also stop being those things.  PERIODT.
